Vinny Dunn: future IPW Heavyweight Champion
Tuesday December 13, 2005

From the moment I witnessed Vinny Dunn's debut match in Impact Pro Wrestling (a loss against The Machine at the Genesis 2005 day show - one that he would avenge in emphatic style at Armageddon), I knew we were looking at greatness.

He's chiseled perfection, seemingly moulded like some Greek God and with the attitude and physical attributes to back it up.

Vinny shows off his great work. Cardno is left without a dance partner. Again.
And he is a future IPW Heavyweight Champion.

Dunn has come into IPW with the perfect frame of mind. He's not interested in the accolades of the fans (or the "Dogheads" as we like to refer to them as) like your Alfred Valentine's or your Joey Kinkade's of this world. The fans won't help you to victory; tenacity and drive will. And that's just what Vinny Dunn has.

But tenacity and drive alone won't take you to the top though. You've got to have the goods to back it up. And the goods are just what Dunn has. The Triple Powerbomb; the Straight from the Coast cross-tackle and the ever impressive "The Only One" are just three of the devastating manouveurs that prove the greatness that is...The One.

How many men can claim to have knocked The Machine off his perch in a hardcore match? Vinny's subsequent retirement as the King of Hardcore was a sad day indeed, but at least he went out on top.

But wait, there's more.

Add Gary O. Davis to the mix and you've got one potent professional wrestler. Although Vinny is a ring general in his own right, having the the real mastermind of Davis in your corner is about as good as it gets.

While Dunn trains physically for each bout, Davis studies tapes, notes weaknesses and comes up with plans on how to physically dismantle each opponent. And with Dunn under the tutelage of Davis, IPW's finest best beware.

That is what we in the industry call, a winning formula.

I don't understand why the "fans" don't love Vinny. Maybe it's Tall Poppy Syndrome. The fact that he can talk a good game and back it up must be intimidating. As is the fact that he can get any woman he wants.

Sure, Vinny's win-loss record isn't the most impressive in IPW today, but true perfection does take time. And it's a road that Vinny is very much set on.

"You're right, Dion.", Vinny said to me recently, "I don't care which Doghead has that IPW New Zealand Heavyweight Championship belt. When I finally get my title shot, I'm gonna grasp that thing with both hands, put it around this rock hard waist and show those idiots what a real Champion looks like."

"And look at me, I deserve it! Unlike those lazy Dogheads, I work hard, I set my goals and I achieve them. I'm not a fat, lazy waste of space. I'm the World's Greatest!"

"You know what's funny?", Davis said as he chimed in. "My plan for Vinny's IPW Heavyweight Championship win is already well under way. And things couldn't be going any better!"

Punks like my idiot commentary partner James Cardno best start paying attention in Impact Pro Wrestling. Greatness doesn't come along every day, and those that don't realise Vinny Dunn has "it" are truly missing out.

Me? I'm going to sit back and enjoy the ride. And when Vinny Dunn wins the IPW Heavyweight Championship, I'll be the first one to say I told you so.

As a broadcast journalist, it's my job to know. And it has been your pleasure to find out.
